Quite often, we receive calls from customers who have no idea what they could do if they lost their only car key. They wonder, is their only option to tow to the dealership and pay a fortune? Be without their car for at least a day? And that is if their lucky enough to lose their car keys during business hours, Monday through Friday and not on a holiday. Unbeknownst to most consumers, when they lose their only car key, there is an alternative that is cheaper than the dealership. They can call a local locksmith service and the locksmith company will send a locksmith to their location to cut and program them a new key. This whole process can usually be completed within 45 minutes from the time the customer calls until they are driving away with their car and a new key. The service is cheaper than the dealership, and companies like ours, Mr. Spare Key, are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays and weekends.

A key to an American car is always cheaper as the parts are more available in the US. So typically, if it is an American car that is older than 2016, a plain chip key will be between $100 and $300, a remote key between $150 and $400. Those ranges are if all the keys are lost. For duplications a plain chip key will be between $90 and $129 for American cars older than 2016. A remote key between $129 and $189. For European cars there is wide variety in the pricing as those parts are less available and European cars use special machines and have extra codes.
We always do our best to provide customers with an accurate price range and ETA before sending a locksmith to your location. If it is an unusual job, we will tell you upfront that we need to see it to provide an estimate and inform you of exactly how much a service call is.
